amp connectors automotive

TE Connectivity (formerly AMP) automotive connectors serve as the “neural nodes” of a vehicle’s electrical system, primarily responsible for transmitting power, signals, and data within engine, chassis, body, and safety systems. The production of these components represents a benchmark of precision manufacturing.
Precision stamping utilizes high-precision progressive dies to blank and bend copper alloy strips, such as phosphor bronze or brass, into terminal shapes, strictly controlling burrs and dimensional accuracy. Plating involves coating the contact areas with tin, silver, or gold to reduce contact resistance while providing corrosion and oxidation resistance, requiring precise control over thickness and porosity.
Injection molding uses high-temperature resistant and flame-retardant engineering plastics like PBT or PA66 to form the connector housings under high mold temperatures, ensuring no flash, sink marks, and dimensional stability. Assembly and crimping involve automated equipment inserting terminals into housings and using specialized tools to crimp terminals onto wires, creating air-tight, corrosion-resistant connection points, which is a critical process in wire harness manufacturing.
Finally, testing and quality inspection are conducted on these TE Connectivity (formerly AMP) automotive connectors, including measurements of insertion/withdrawal forces, retention forces, continuity, salt spray resistance, and environmental durability (thermal cycling and vibration), to ensure compliance with automotive standards such as USCAR and LV214.
